The University of Rhode Island Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Spectra is seeking a qualified Marketing Assistant to begin on October 14, 2019. The Marketing Assistant is a 40-hour/week, post-graduate internship position that will conclude on June 12, 2020. The Marketing Assistant will be an essential member of the department’s external operations staff with an emphasis on maximizing fan engagement, ticket sales, and branding efforts.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Sports Management or related field is required.
Excellent organizational, problem-solving and communication skills required.
Strong copywriting skills for use in-game scripts, social media, and email marketing.
Ability to design marketing materials; proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products and Adobe Creative Suite; specifically Photoshop.
Understanding of digital and social media marketing tools and best practices.
Assertive, outgoing, hard-working, resourceful, as well as an independent thinker.
Exceptional teamwork and communication skills to collaborate daily with administrators, coaches, and student-athletes.
Outstanding work ethic, initiative and desire to advance within the industry.
Capable of working a flexible schedule and extended hours including but not limited to working early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays in addition to traditional business hours, is required.
Must have a valid drivers’ license and vehicle.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Lead the marketing initiatives for select sports, including:
Preparing the promotions schedule for home events.
Scheduling national anthem performers and in-game entertainment.
Collaborating with coaches to identify and implement grassroots marketing activities.
Designing promotional graphics for use in email marketing, digital and social media platforms.
Directing game entertainment by producing game scripts, assembling music playlists and managing marketing displays for assigned Olympic Sports and women’s basketball.
Support the marketing, ticket sales and fan entertainment strategies for the Rhode Island football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball programs.
Assist with the management of key marketing groups including Rhody Ruckus and Junior Ruckus.
Utilize official social media outlets to engage fans by delivering entertaining and informative content.
Assist with the management of the student internship program.
Coordinate the fulfillment of sponsorship, development, ticketing, and merchandise needs to help maximize all revenue sources.
Cultivate relationships with campus and community organizations to increase local support of all URI athletic programs.
Other duties as assigned.
