The New York State Center of Excellence for Food and Agriculture at Cornell AgriTech is a hub that provides vision and leadership to advance economic development projects, and connects businesses and entrepreneurs with the services and resources they need to be successful. The Center of Excellence's strategy is to push startups and entrepreneurs, pull new businesses into New York State, and grow existing business in the food and agriculture sectors. The Center of Excellence leverages Cornell University's global leadership and world class research, innovation and technology to achieve its statewide mission.
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Center of Excellence Marketing and Development Specialist will help formulate and execute marketing strategies for food, beverage and agriculture companies in New York State. Half of the job duties and time will be devoted to promoting New York State's thriving food and agriculture innovation economy, and half will be focused on promoting Geneva as a specific place for food and beverage innovation and businesses.
Many assets related to the food, beverage and agriculture industry are located in Geneva, including Cornell AgriTech, the Cornell Food Venture Center, the Cornell Craft Beverage Institute and the Cornell Agriculture and Food Technology Park, in addition to multiple small and large existing businesses related to food, beverage and agriculture. The Center of Excellence is working with businesses located in Geneva to help them grow, and has a goal of connecting with every company served by the Cornell Food Venture Center, and the Cornell Craft Beverage Institute. In addition, the Center of Excellence will be interfacing with food, beverage and agriculture startup companies that are competing in Grow-NY, a major pitch competition that is funded by New York State and run by Cornell.
The Cornell Agriculture and Food Technology Park is a 72-acre research, development and production business park that is a designated by the state as a Start Up NY site. It features an incubator building for startup companies, and plans are underway for the construction of a manufacturing space for companies that have developed beyond the startup phase and are expanding their operations and jobs. The Technology Park and the Center of Excellence work collaboratively to draw companies to locate at the Technology Park, not only in the existing incubator and planned building, but to construct manufacturing facilities.
Geneva has launched a Food and Beverage Industry innovation Initiative that is a consortium of academic institutions, private entities and public partners to accelerate the growth of the food and beverage industry ecosystem in Geneva.

Bachelor's Degree; minimum 3-5 years of experience. Excellence in interpersonal and communication skills, including writing and making effective presentations to internal and external top management officials. Computer proficiency including word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, and generating reports using standard software applications. Proven ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and work under pressure. Proven ability to promote cooperation and collaboration among internal and cross-functional team members. Must be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with various students, faculty, staff, and outside clientele to accomplish goals. Effective change agent; must possess excellent decision-making skills, representing the project professionally and ethically with tact, diplomacy and advocacy; self-starter, conceptual and imaginative thinker in a complex environment. Ability to analyze and solve complex problems. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Ability to develop concise and compelling marketing materials. Must possess and maintain a valid New York State driver's license and undergo a successful driver background check.
Recommended five years of experience in marketing, communications, and public relations. Knowledge and involvement in projects related to economic attraction, expansion and retention, or membership sales. At least three years serving as a senior manager. Education in an area of study and demonstrated expertise related to marketing, communications and public relations is preferred.
