Center for Regional Economic Advancement (CREA) supports a diverse and thriving economy in Upstate New York through many programs. A few examples include: 1) Rev: Ithaca Startup Works, a business incubator that leverages existing entrepreneurial support services; 2) The Southern Tier Startup Alliance (STSA) designed to bring together and leverage the contributions of incubators and entrepreneurial support structures in the region; 3) 76West, a clean energy business competition 4) Grow-NY, a business competition for food and agriculture companies and 5) NSF I-Corps, a program that prepares University scientists and engineers to move their technology toward commercialization. CREA also partners with Cornell colleges and units such as Johnson and Engineering to support entrepreneurship programs like eLab, the Center of Excellence for Food and Agriculture, W.E. Cornell, and the Technology Commercialization Fellows program.
The Marketing Communications Specialist will be assigned specific programs listed above, including, but not limited to Grow-NY and the Center of Excellence for Food and Agriculture. They will be responsible for planning and executing marketing and communications efforts for those programs and measuring the effectiveness of those efforts. They will be expected to distribute digital and print content for a wide variety of communication channels supporting a variety of entrepreneurship-focused programs.
They will meet independently with clients to develop solutions to their communication needs, help create and execute integrated marketing communications plans while ensuring overall brand and message consistency. They will create project plans and timelines and check in with clients throughout the process to ensure communication goals are met. They will assist with budget planning, create multimedia content, design print and digital collateral, and write and edit social media posts, newsletters, press releases, and web content. Most importantly, they will be a part of a modern, uber-collaborative team helping springboard startups to success.
This is a one-year term position with possibility of renewal based on funding availability.
A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, writing, or related field or a minimum of 2-4 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have professional attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and execution
Must be comfortable working in an environment where change is common; capable of setting priorities under pressure
Must have an ability to work and collaborate with others under little supervision while demonstrating a positive, purpose-oriented work ethic
Experience managing social media accounts across multiple channels
Basic experience with design software programs including Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign
Experience using AP writing style and the ability to write professionally for a variety of mediums including websites, email, social media, and blogs
Experience telling stories with words, pictures, and multimedia that connect to larger integrated marketing plan priorities
Understanding of integrated brand management and how to create pieces that align with brand guidelines
2-3 years professional experience in marketing and communications
Experience using Mailchimp or other email distribution tools
Experience using WordPress or other content management systems
Intermediate photography and photo editing skills
Advanced graphic design skills using the Adobe Creative Cloud and experience designing posters, one-sheets, and other collateral
A passion for social media management and metrics reporting
Experience using a PR distribution tool
Interest in supporting startups and entrepreneurs launch and grow their companies
