Founded in 1977 by Father Paul Sheridan, S.J., Boys Hope Girls Hope is a privately funded, non-profit, multi-denominational organization that provides at-risk children with a stable home, high quality education, and the support they need to reach their full potential. Many of their children come from home environments marked by abuse, poverty or neglect. Others come from caring families unable to meet the child's needs because of chronic unemployment, violence or dangerous neighborhoods.
Boys Hope Girls Hope (BHGH) is currently serving children 14 U.S. cities and two foreign countries (Guatemala and Mexico). Boys Hope Girls Hope's unique approach is a holistic, "whole-person" based approach that meets all the needs of the children in its care. The program:
Supports children financially and emotionally from middle school through college and career networking beyond graduation.
Provides children with long-term adult relationships and positive mentoring.
Places children in non-institutional, family-like homes staffed with live-in residential counselors.
Is funded exclusively through private sector donations.

Since its inception in 1979, Boys Hope Girls Hope of Illinois (BHGHIL) has been dedicated to helping capable young scholars. Children who once had little chance to succeed now have opportunities to attend college and realize their dreams. BHGHIL has offered scholarships to Chicago area children who are academically capable – all of whom are at risk for not attending college due to poverty, homelessness, gang or domestic violence, drug use and other seemingly insurmountable challenges.
Boys Hope Girls Hope is unique because it is the Scholars' choice to be there. Most of our Scholars are the first members of their families to have the opportunity to go to college. Currently, 100 percent of their Scholars who graduate from high school as part of the program go on to college.
The mission of Boys Hope Girls Hope is to help academically capable and motivated children-in-need to meet their full potential and become men and women for others by providing value-centered, family- like homes, opportunities and education through college. More specifically, the program provides:
Homes. Opportunity. Parenting. Education
