This position will work under the leadership of the ISD Assistant Director of Engagement and Marketing to develop and execute marketing and communications initiatives that support current and new program and partnership opportunities across ISD’s academic portfolio. The ideal candidate is a creative, well-rounded, detail-oriented team-player who has experience working effectively with diverse audiences across multiple communications channels, and brings a dedication to quality and customer service.
Overall Marketing & Communications (55%):
Work with the Assistant Director of Engagement and Marketing to analyze marketing and communications needs as well as performing trend and market analysis for new and existing ISD programs.
Assist in the development of ISD’s overall marketing and communications plans and strategies for both internal and external audiences, including branding, strategic messaging, media design, websites, social media, promotional activities, digital and traditional marketing, print collateral, media relations, public relations, photo/video media, etc.
Create, implement, and manage multiple marketing and communications initiatives to meet organizational and audience needs, including identifying and implementing appropriate delivery methods.
Research, create, and edit content on a wide range of ISD activities and participants for all delivery modes including digital, print, press releases, presentations, exhibits, event materials, etc.
Create and implement a content editorial calendar to ensure a steady flow of original and curated content to various audiences.
Work closely with other team members in the coordination and implementation of marketing and communication efforts with other strategic initiatives such as recruiting, partnership engagement, fund development, and alumni outreach.
Create and maintain databases, email, and other contact lists for marketing and communications initiatives.
Track data and analyze the effectiveness and return on investment of marketing and communications activities, and provide recommendations for strengthening approaches.
Assist in compiling and editing presentation materials in various formats.
Work collaboratively to ensure photo/video coverage of ISD events and activities.
Digital Marketing & Social Media (25%):
Create, implement, and manage digital marketing and social media initiatives aimed at increasing general awareness of ISD, recruiting students, connecting with alumni and donors, and strengthening communications with multiple target audiences.
Research, create, and edit ISD news stories and digital content for websites, social media, email marketing, digital newsletters, etc.
Create and manage a digital editorial calendar for web, social media, and email marketing publishing schedules.
Collaborate with ISD instructors and industry/other partners to create value-added content.
Manage paid digital marketing initiatives and budgets, and make recommendations to increase effectiveness and optimize performance.
Track digital marketing, website, and social media analytics; analyze the effectiveness of efforts and make recommendations for improvement.
Manage ISD digital calendars and MCommunity lists.
Media and Public Relations (15%):
Develop relationships with appropriate media partners and outlets, and manage their engagement in the promotion and awareness of ISD programs, activities, and participants.
Collaborate in the planning and coordination of ISD participation in conferences, educational/career fairs, trade shows, and other networking events; may attend relevant events to assist in promoting and representing ISD programs.
Participate in College of Engineering and University-wide communicators groups as a designated liaison for ISD.
Maintain an awareness of related news and events across the university, and as applicable, the region (i.e. industry partners).
Overall Strategic Implementation (5%):
Contribute to overall ISD program development and awareness through activities such as gathering information and clearly presenting it for various audiences (ISD leadership, advisory boards, external partners, etc.).
In conjunction with supervisor and ISD administrative staff, assist in the development and monitoring of marketing and communications activity budgets and resources.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 3 years of professional experience in communications/marketing.
Professional experience creating and executing marketing and communications strategies for internal and external audiences utilizing both multi-media and digital channels.
Demonstrated excellent verbal, written, presentation, interpersonal, and networking skills that show the ability to interact effectively with all levels of participants, partners, and audiences.
Professional experience developing and writing original content for a wide variety of delivery channels (digital and traditional) as well as editing the communication work of others.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.
Excellent project management, organizational, analytical, creative, and critical thinking skills involving multi-faceted initiatives, with a demonstrated ability to successfully meet deadlines and strategy goals.
Professional experience in digital marketing and social media management, including paid marketing channels and technologies (Google AdWords, social network advertising).
Experience in using web-based tools and technologies such as media analytics (Google Analytics), MailChimp, Constant Contact, Eventbrite, social media, etc.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Docs, and other productivity tools.
Strong collaborative working style with the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team in a flexible, dynamic environment.
Awareness of best practices in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and working with diverse groups of people.
Professional marketing & communications experience in higher education.
Experience in a scientific or technical field; an awareness of engineering fields.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
Experience with photography and videography.
Experience with website content management software for updating websites.
Some graphic design knowledge a plus.
