The Senior Director, Communications & Marketing, has the following responsibilities:
COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING
Responsible for creating, implementing, and measuring the success of:
A comprehensive communications and marketing program that will enhance the Association’s image, bring visibility to AAFCS programs, products, and initiatives, and help achieve revenue goals for the Association.
All Association communications activities and materials, including publications, website, and social media sites.
Ensure articulation of Association’s desired image and position, assure consistent communication of image and position throughout the Association, and assure communication of image and position to all constituencies, both internal and external.
Responsible for editorial direction, design, production, and distribution of all Association publications.
Coordinate through contractor or self-initiated, corporate partnerships, including sponsorships, advertising, and exhibits.
Coordinate media interest in the Association and the field and ensure regular contact with target media and appropriate response to media requests.
Oversee all Association print and electronic materials.
Develop communications and strategies to increase customer engagement in online communities.
Ensure that the Family & Consumer Sciences brand and messaging is shared with relevant audiences to improve understanding of the field. Assure proper use of the brand graphics and messages.
Oversee the development and sales of AAFCS and FCS products.
Provide support for Alliance for FCS communications, including management of the Alliance website.
Develop resource materials to assist affiliates in the marketing and positioning of their programs and activities.
Provide best practices to affiliates on effective communications.
Work with senior staff, other staff, and volunteers to develop and maintain a strategic perspective -- based on marketplace and member/customer needs and satisfaction -- in organizational direction, programs and services, and decision-making.
Ensure that the Association’s communications and marketing support its mission and vision.
Use strategic communications to bring attention and solutions to Association priorities and issues for the field.
Serve as AAFCS representative to focused groups especially germane to marketing campaigns, such as the Nutrition Education Labeling Consortium and Home Baking Association.
Supervise Associate Director, Events and Outreach.
Develop and monitor an annual operating budget for areas of responsibilities and monitoring income and expenses to meet or “do better than” budget.
Duties as assigned.
The position is a member of the AAFCS senior management team focused on “Connecting Professionals. Touching Lives.” in the field of family and consumer sciences.

Minimum of bachelor’s degree in related field.
Working knowledge of, background in and/or experience with family & consumer sciences.
Minimum of 7 years of managing marketing, communications, or public relations with demonstrated success, preferably in the not-for-profit or association sector.
Proven record of producing growth in membership, programs, resources, and/or products.
Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational, and personal sales skills.
Excellent grammatical, written, visual and oral communications skills.
Experience working with outside vendors, including designers, artists, printers, direct mail houses, etc.
Experience developing and managing budgets, and hiring, training, developing, supervising, and appraising personnel.
Demonstrated successful experience creating media-focused tools and resources.
Experience overseeing the design and production of print and electronic materials and publications.
Strong diplomatic skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and communications software.
Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
Experienced in project management, with ability to handle changing and competing multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Willingness to acquire new skills to increase proficiency.
Ability to work with staff as a team member.
Willingness to travel overnight and out of town for annual conference and other events/programs/workshops (1-3 times per year).
Willingness to work on occasional weekends.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and exhibit calm and grace under pressure.
