The Director will provide counsel to the Chancellor, campus leadership, deans and program directors regarding the effective use of resources in an effort to support the University's strategic priorities via the brand identity and image. This includes creating, implementing and evaluating the consistency of messaging across the organization and throughout internal and external communications (media relations/advertising/social media/web and print publications) and establishing metrics to measure the effectiveness of all external and internal communication initiatives. This position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Advancement and External Affairs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Research, formulate and manage an integrated marketing program and specific marketing approaches for distinct market segments, including message development, execution, and measurement of results.
Provide operational leadership to the Office of Marketing and Communications; this includes supervising the work activity of staff and managing the unit budget.
Develop and execute marketing and communication strategies for IU Northwest; this includes working closely with campus partners to ensure that the public relations strategies (copy, photography and ad placement) yield positive results in priority areas.
Provide strategic direction and oversight of the campus' reputation and image, including positioning of all media initiatives; serve as the IU Northwest spokesperson, as needed.
Create and implement an integrated online and social media strategy that effectively markets to our internal and external constituents; this includes serving as the functional content owner of the IU Northwest website with message and visual oversite.
Manage the development of design for invitations, programs, websites, and other event and marketing collateral.
Develop, implement and manage campus communication strategies (brochures, e-mail messages, e-newsletters, posters, table tents, digital screen and websites.)
Assist in crisis communications planning and preparation in support of the University's critical role in campus crisis management.
Partner with campus leaders to create talking points, editorials and PowerPoint presentation information.
Serve as the institutions representative at public events and gatherings as needed.
Bachelor's degree required
Minimum five years of experience in marketing, communication or public relations field with demonstrated success
Proven leadership skills – both program and people
Excellent communication skills – both oral and written
Proven interpersonal and relationship building skills
Project management experience, including managing competing short-term and long-term priorities
Previous experience in prioritizing and delegating work
Experience with graphics, layout, and design in both print and electronic formats
Knowledge of marketing principles and media management best practices
Previous spokesperson experiences preferred
Excellent computer skills and knowledge of design software
Ability and willingness to travel as necessary to meet essential initiatives
Ability to support after-hours and emergency events that occur outside of the traditional work day
Preferred Education: Master's degree
Preferred previous professional experience in higher education
