CMU is seeking a creative and energetic multimedia social media producer to tell the stories of one of the world's premier institutions through our social media channels. This position, which is part of the Content department in the university's Marketing & Communications Division, is an excellent opportunity if you have experience in visual storytelling and social media production. You'll join a growing and vibrant social media team which has increased the University's social media followership by 70% in just two years. You will report to the Social Media Manager and will focus on multimedia approaches to telling the University's stories.
Our compelling, targeted narratives on these subjects are distributed through social media, online, video, internal communications and more.
Core responsibilities will include:
Develop story ideas and generate photographs, video, audio segments or interactive graphics for CMU central social media channels (including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Snapchat)
Develop and facilitate short-form video content production, both independently and in collaboration with the in-house video producers.
Develop brand building and reputational opportunities to reach targeted audiences on social media, with new approached and techniques.
Amplify other communications efforts across the campus, supporting the colleges/schools and other units across campus
Produce and publish livestreams, both independently and in collaboration with media production, for a variety of events, including interviews and university-wide events.
Monitor social media mentions and other activity; identify mentions that need responses; read news reports and identify stories suitable for sharing on social media; identify influencers and strategies for working with them
Review new platforms and tools and make recommendations to enhance audience engagement
Contribute to the planning process and approach to social media strategy and content development.
Create and produce multimedia projects to be used on social channels, especially those that align with the strategic goals of the university
The producer should demonstrate:

Minimum of three years relevant multimedia and social media experience, including monitoring social platforms and producing and posting photos, video and graphics
Minimum education: Bachelor's degree, preferably in multimedia production, graphics design, journalism, communications or similar field, or equivalent experience.
Proven experience in producing multimedia news, interactive graphics, videos or similar content (samples requested).
Knowledge of web and social media platforms, experience with social media management tools, media monitoring services and other systems similar to ones used by CMU.
Experience or deep knowledge of higher education; broad understanding of or interest in higher education issues and in current events.
Job requires working across diverse environments and travel to various locations, on & off campus, as well as stand for long periods at university events and activities. Weekend and evening hours, and occasional holiday duty , will be required for assisting with university and student events and activities. This position resides at CMU's Oakland campus.
