The Port Department is looking for a Princpal Marketing Analyst to join their team. Reporting to the Manager, Functional Support, the incumbent will: * Manage the Cargo Facility Charge (CFC) program, including database updates, performance of required queries, invoice reconciliation etc. * Provide analytical reports on key companies doing business at Port of NY & NJ container and auto terminals. * Monitor throughput volumes for each container terminal (by carrier and string) and provide monthly and quarterly reports to Port Department senior staff. * Monitor status and changes in the itineraries of each vessel string calling at each Port of NY & NJ container terminal, including the transit times of each service, the first/last east coast ports of call, etc. * Work with customer relations staff to update industry brochures that relate to terminal, ocean carrier and rail services available in the Port of NY & NJ. * Research, analyze and provide concise reports describing conditions within the ocean shipping industry with a focus on how those conditions affect the Port of NY & NJ's business. * Compile monthly reports of vessel calls (all types) by leased terminals vs. public berths, type of vessel, and type of cargo. * Compile quarterly summaries of current world container fleet and new buildings on order by vessel class (i.e. – Post-Panamax, Panamax, Sub-Panamax, Handy) and size. * Prepare quarterly updates of near and long term cargo forecasts and work closely with PA financial staff to update revenue forecasts from PA marine terminal facilities, to reflect changing economic conditions. * Synthesize results of analysis and industry experience into actionable items by the Port Department to improve Port's competitive position and customer service. * Conduct site visits to the Port facilities in NY NJ on an as needed basis.
Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position: * Bachelor's Degree in international business, marine transportation, marine operations, marine technology, logistics, economics, intermodal transportation, marine engineering, naval architecture, or related field. * Five (5) – seven (7) years of experience in the shipping/cargo transportation industry in operations, sales, or analysis. * The selected candidate will be required to pass a Federal Security Background check and obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) to work in a maritime environment as required by Department of Homeland Security. Ideal candidates will present the following profile: * Demonstrated understanding of marine terminal operations, including bulk, break-bulk, container and vehicular cargo facilities - both public and leased berths. * Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access. * Demonstrated understanding of vessel operations including operating costs, operating characteristics and operating economics. * Demonstrated understanding of ocean carrier routing and port choice analysis and decision making process. * Working familiarity with and proven ability to understand and apply data and intelligence available through external industry trade publications and data sources. * Proven experience managing analytical data including market and data analysis projects from scoping to completion.
